Lansdale Apartment Inspections

Lansdale officials are staying the course with a plan to inspect the rental units of the borough once every two years.   Wednesday night they renewed their contract with the consulting firm that has been doing the work.   Pennoni Associates will recive more than $126,000 over the next year to inspect about half of the 2,600 apartments in Lansdale.   A majority on borough council cited safety concerns for staying with the once every other year inspections but council member Joe Flyzik says that schedule is too frequent and a waste of the $58 fee that landlords pay for each of their rental units every year.   He also says landlords got nothing more than lip service when they were promised an overhaul of the inspection criteria.   Council member Mike Riccio also voted against renewing the contract with Pennoni Associates.   He says their fee is too steep.
