A 17-year-old Warrington girl is accused of driving nearly twice the speed limit when she crashed her car, killing a passenger, in early September.
A Central Bucks South High School senior, whose name has not been released, is charged with homicide by vehicle. Police say she lost control on a curve, spun across the road, and slammed sideways into a tree, on Street Road near Elbow Lane in Warrington. The posted speed limit there is 40 miles per hour, and the curve has a sign warning motorists to slow down to 35. Investigators found that she was traveling at about 69 miles per hour. 16-year-old CB South Junior Alexandra Smolin was in the back seat on the passenger side, which took most of the impact. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Smolin’s family had recently moved to Warrington from Florida, and it was her first day at the school.
