Property Tax Hike in Towamencin

Property taxes are on the way up in Towamencin.   The township supervisors Wednesday night voted to advertise a budget for next year that raises the millage rate by almost 65%.   That translates into an increase of about $130 for the average homeowner.   Township officials says revenues are down because of the recession.   On the plus side, the budget continues the Homestead Exemption that allows qualified homeowners and farmers to shield $59,000 of the assessed value of their home from taxation.   There will be no increase in sewer rates or the cost of a pool membership either.   The township supervisors are scheduled to take final action on the budget December 30th.
