The Lansdale Parks and Recreation and Police Departments held their annual free Bicycle Safety Workshop for children 5 to 13 years of age Saturday at White’s Road Park. Officer George Johnson says the kids do several things.
“The goal is just to try to get kids fitted for current helmets, to have their bikes inspected by Pedaler Bike Shop, as well as to give them an obstacle course to better their skills for riding their bike. The obstacle course is divided into several different things. We have a figure 8 to help them with their balance, we have driving between lines which also increases their balance. We have a serpentine, which gives them mobility training, and we have a speed course that gives them braking ability.”
Johnson says the kids build their confidence and riding skills on the obstacle course, and the police interact with the children and their parents, helping to maintain a good relationship between the police and the community. North Wales Police joined Lansdale Police at the White’s Road Park event.
