Montgomery County State Representative Bob Godshall holds his 19th Annual Children’s Trout Fishing Derby Saturday in Franconia. He says they put plenty of fish in the water before it starts.
“We stock 500 brook trout, and they always give me about 10 real monsters – 3, 4, 5 pounders. Very few are caught the first day, but a couple years ago a little girl about 5 years old caught one that was almost as big as she was and she was tickled to death, so it’s a great event for the kids. We usually have about 200 to 250 kids there with their parents. It’s a great day.”
Godshall says it helps children learn an appreciation for the outdoors. Children up to age 12 are welcome, and prizes are given in two age groups – 8 and under and 9 to 12. The fishing derby runs from 9:00 to 11:30 Saturday morning at Branchwood Park on Camp Road in Franconia, and children and parents should arrive early to register and learn the rules.
