A Philadelphia man who admitted carjacking a waitress as she left the Montgomery County restaurant where she worked has been given 35 to 70 years in state prison. 55-year-old Reginald McNeill pleaded guilty earlier this year to kidnapping, attempted rape and other offenses. The crime happened early one Sunday morning in July of 2010 outside the Kitchen Bar on Old York Road in Abington. McNeill forced the 20-year-old woman into her car using pepper spray, and then held her at knifepoint as he drove the car into Philadelphia. He went to Broad Street and Olney Avenue and tried to handcuff her, but she fought back, struggling for several minutes. After they both fell from the moving car he panicked and ran, and she got back into her car, drove away and called police. McNeill was arrested two days later at a home in the city. He had been released from prison the previous year after serving 27 years for a 1978 rape and robbery, and police said they believed his latest victim would be dead if she had not fought back.
