State Transportation Secretary Barry Schoch was in King of Prussia Thursday talking up proposals to generate more money for the repair of highways and bridges. He says a bill that has passed the senate would raise two-and-a-half billion dollars annually by eliminating the cap on the oil franchise tax and increasing the fee for auto registration and a drivers license. It would cost the average driver about $2.50 per week by the time it was fully implemented in three years. The senate measure still needs house approval. The governor wants it on his desk by the end of this month.
