Towamencin To Pay Y.M.C.A To Manage Township Pool

The North Penn Y.M.C.A. will be managing the Towamencin Community pool on Weikel Road again during the upcoming swim season.

The agreement approved by the Township Supervisors Thursday night calls for the Y.M.C.A. to be paid 135,000 to handle the day to day operations of the aquatic facility including hiring and training staff. Township Manager Rob Ford says a proposed lease agreement between the Township and Y.M.C.A. is off the table, at least for this year.

“What we were trying to do with them for 2016 we started talking about this last fall and it was turn overt the whole pool to them and they’d be responsible for collecting membership fees and promoting the pool and we just kind of ran out of time and couldn’t make that happen in 2016. So, our fall back position, which we talked about at budget time, was to proceed as in pervious years.”

The Supervisors also approved an agreement that calls for the Township to split the salaries of the Towamencin swim team coaching staff with the team. Previously the township had funded 75-percent of the cost. The team is expected to cover those salaries in their entirety next year.
