Toomey Crafts Proposed Law on Painkiller Abuse

Pennsylvania U.S Senator Pat Toomey sponsors a bill to the address the heroin and opiode epidemic.

It’s called “Stopping Medication Abuse & Protecting Seniors Act.

“The bill authorizes Medicare that when Medicare discovers a beneficiary is obtaining multiple prescriptions well beyond what any individual should appropriately have, then Medicare would have the authority to require that person to get their prescriptions in the future from one doctor and get them filled at one pharmacy. It’s called Lock in because you’re locked in to a single doctor and you’re locked in to a single pharmacy.”

Toomey says, the heroin and opide epidemic is getting so bad in Pennsylvania that more people will die from heroin and opiode overdoses than the flu and homicides combined.
