Souderton Applies For Community Development Block Grant

New curb and sidewalks could be in the works for Montgomery Avenue between fourth and fifth streets in souderton.

Borough Council Monday night approved submission of an application for a 200,000 Community Development Block Grant that would be used for the project. The grants are Federal funds administered by Montgomery County. Borough Manager Mike Coll says there are demographic requirements for the neighborhoods that benefit from them.

“Low to moderate income as determined by the Census Bureau. The Borough is broken down to what is called census blocks. Unlimited to projects that have to fall in areas where income thresholds meet the criteria.”

Coll hopes to hear back from Montgomery County officials about the status of the application in August or September.
The Borough was awarded a 180,000 grant last year that is being used for curb and sidewalks along County Line Road, between Central Avenue and Chestnut Street. That project is currently in the engineering phase.
