State Rep Opposes Bill to Ban Abortions After 20 Weeks

A bill to ban abortions after 20 weeks, sponsored by Warren County State Rep. Kathy Knapp, would only allow an abortion if the mother’s life was in jeopardy or to prevent harm to her.

Knapp says, the measure does not attempt to overturn Roe vs Wade.

“It does not prohibit women from getting or seeking an abortion. It limits the time and the pain the child suffers from 20 weeks on.”

Montgomery County State Rep. Mary Jo Daley opposes the bill for several reasons.

“I just do not see how we feel we have the knowledge, the expertise or even the right to impose on a decision that a woman and her family needs to make, with input from her physician.”

The House Health Committee considered and passed HB1948 Monday. Governor Wolf plans to veto the bill if it reaches his desk.
