United Way of Bucks County Looks To Make Difference For Teens

United Way of Bucks County has new leadership with the departure of Jamie Haddon after five years at the helm.

Marissa Christie has been elevated to Chief Executive Officer. Christie’s been with the organization for six years and is up to speed with one of its main goals at this time of year, the gift card drive for older children.

“What we found is that there’s so many toy drives for kids but generally they only serve kids up to the age of 11 or 12, and that leaves in many cases, older siblings completely out, in other words, some of them get nothing over the holidays. So what we started doing is a holiday gift card drive and that serves older teens who would otherwise get nothing.”

Christie says, to make a donation visit uwbucks.org/giftcarddrive. Christie adds, another major goal of the United Way of Bucks County is a program called Bucks County Knocks Out Hunger. Christie says, 1 in 10 residents in Bucks County and about 16 percent of children are food insecure.
