Mike Bannon, Director of the Bucks County Department of Consumer Protection says, skimmers are being installed on gas pumps and ATM’s in the region in an effort to steal credit and debit card numbers.
Bannon says, there’s strong evidence that shows consumers should be aware when they use a gas pump or ATM with a credit or debit card.
“There’s been a few camera shots of them installing it, so they’ve made a few mistakes along the way, but there’s no question about the fact that the skimmer devices are highly sophisticated.”
Bannon, a guest on WNPV’s AM Edition says, authorities believe a group of people working out of the New York City area are installing the skimmers. Bannon says, when all cards are replaced with chips instead of magnetic strips, the skimmers will be useless.
