Train Cars Derail in Sellersville

Three box cars on railroad tracks in Sellersville derailed Tuesday at around 3pm.

The rail cars were hauling butter and 900 gallons of diesel fuel used to keep the butter cool. There were no reported injuries, but a big clean up continues and could take several days. Some of the diesel fuel leaked into a nearby creek. It’s not known how much fuel leaked into the creek. The rail cars left the tracks in the area of 9th street and Jessica Lane in Sellersville. Three box cars carrying wood partially derailed. The other 17 cars stored with propane stayed on the tracks. Police and other investigators are still looking for a cause but anyone who may have witnessed the derailment is asked to call Perkasie police.
