A reminder from Bucks County’s consumer champ, Mike Bannon concerning the IRS scam.
Bannon, a guest on WNPV’s AM Edition Tuesday, advises taxpayers to be on guard.
“It’s tax season and that’s usually when they turn up, like this year. We’ve gotten a ton of calls from people who say they received a call from a person saying they’re from the IRS and that they owe money. They also threaten people to them to give up sensitive information.”
Bannon, Director of the Bucks County Department of Consumer Protection says simply hang up or don’t even take the call when scammers ring your landline or cell phone. He says if you don’t recognize the number, don’t’ answer the call. Bannon also reminds taxpayers that the IRS will never call someone and demand money. The IRS reaches out to taxpayers through the mail.
