Bill Calls For Charge When Child Sees or Hears Domestic Violence

State Senator Bob Mensch sponsors a domestic violence bill that would carry an additional charge when someone harms another person in front an individual 18 years old or younger.

Mensch says, there’s evidence of the residual impact domestic violence has on children.

“They have begun to develop empirical data that suggests that it’s not just age dependent. Even a very young child can recognize verbal and physical abuse. They are beginning to document that it does indeed create trauma with the child, it’s a lasting effect with the child.”

Mensch’s bill has been advanced by the State Senate Judiciary Committee
