Perkasie Borough Settles with Family in Fatal Shooting
A June 9th, 2012 incident that resulted in the death of a Sellersville man at the hands of a Perkasie Borough Police officer has been settled for a reported 550-thousand dollars. Michael Marino Jr. was arrested and handcuffed, but during a struggle with police while the 26-year-old was in handcuffs, one of the officers fired a shot that hit Marino in the chest, killing him. The Bucks County D-A ruled the shooting legally justified, which set off a period of community outrage. Marino suffered from mental illness, according to court papers. The terms of the settlement allows Perkasie Borough not admit to liability, which includes officers and insurers. an independent analysis, conducted by Abington Township Police Chief, William Kelly, concluded that the Perkasie Borough Police department needs additional hands-on training and more comprehensive guidelines.
