Broad St Rerun

wnpv_arts_entertainmentThe Second Annual Broad Street Rerun takes place this Saturday, on South Broad Street in Lansdale and Upper Gwynedd. Proceeds benefit the local chapter of the Hemophilia Foundation.  That nonprofit organization’s Fund Development Director is Christine Rowe of Lansdale, whose son Alex has a related disease.  He’s in first grade at Oak Park Elementary School, and she says the medicine he takes to control it is very expensive.

“My son takes intravenous medication three times a week, and the approximate cost is about $35,000 a month.  Hemophilia, and von Willebrand’s Disease in my son’s case, we are the most expensive chronic illness in the world to manage because we are a lifelong disorder.”

The main sponsor of the Broad Street Rerun is the Physical Therapy and Wellness Institute.  PTW founder and Race Director Bob Babb says he spent some time with Alex after last year’s race.

“I had the pleasure of hanging with him a little bit and taking pictures of him and mom and dad and enjoying the time, and he’s no different than any other seven-year-old and he wants to be no different than any other seven-year-old.”

The race starts at 9:00 Saturday morning at The Pavilion on South Broad Street in Lansdale.  For more information or to register go to www.broadstreetrerun.com on the internet.
