A Hot Time At Warrington Car Show

wnpv_arts_entertainmentClassic car enthusiasts turned out for a show Monday afternoon at Valley Square in Warrington, despite blistering heat. Exhibitors included Bob Bell of Warrington, who was out with his 1940 Ford Sedan.  He says his car is powerful, but he never took her out to see what she’ll do.

“It’s just a little driver to pop around town and go see some shows.  A friend of mine was building it for his wife.  He builds a lot of street rods, and I bought it off of him and finished it.  It’s a street rod, hot rod, any way you want to take it.  It’s not grandpop’s car.”

Jim Brun of Warrington was out with his 300-horsepower 1965 Corvette Coupe.  He says he always liked the ’63-to-’67 models, and he can drive it anywhere.

“I drive it down to Ocean City and take it to the boardwalk.  I won the Corvettes on the Boardwalk last year for ’63 to ‘67’s and it’s just a nice car.  Either coupe or convertible, they’re the nicest corvettes built.  The style is timeless.”

Warrington Parks and Recreation Director Carolyn Hanel says it’s only one of several special events and activities at Valley Square.

“They now have a farmers’ market here on Fridays, and they’re going to start at the end of July what they call Last Fridays.  It’ll be the last Friday of every month with special events.  The farmers’ market will be open until 9:00pm that night.  We’re talking about organizing some cruise nights for the car clubs, and those will be in conjunction with the Last Fridays that will start July 30th.”

Hanel says cruise nights also feature classic cars, some with the same drivers, but it’s not competitive.  They just drive around on local streets and hang out talking about old cars and old times.
