What To Do With Performing Arts Center?

perLansdale officials are trying to decide what to do with the performing arts center they own, in the old Masonic Hall on West Main Street. Borough Council President Matt West says it’s nowhere near finished.

“It’s probably about one quarter completed, and there are issues with the part that was completed.  From a council standpoint we’re just trying to do our homework.  How did we get to this point, how much money was spent?  We don’t have all of the answers, but hopefully by this communication with residents, council, professionals, borough administration, we can figure it out.”

He says code and safety issues must be addressed, and the finished basement has a common problem.

“There’s a water issue in the basement, and I think in the majority of the homes in this town there is a water issue.  When you build a town on a wetland everybody’s going to have water in the basement.  You’re going to have wet feet.”

West says council members might conduct guided tours for small groups, probably starting in the fall, and listen to ideas about the performing arts center.  He says he does not know if it can be finished, and first he wants to decide if it should be finished, or if they should get private businesses to move in and lease space, or some combination of the two.  The borough has spent about $2.5 million of its own money on the building so far, plus about $1.5 million in state and county money, and he says finishing it according to the original plans will cost a lot more.

The Working World Of Television mediapost.com The majority of scripted television shows focus on one of two big topics: 1) the family or 2) the workplace. That's a lot of series about people doing a job. Yet considering how many shows there are about working, it's hard to find one that truly represents the way we spend one-third of our lives.
