Farm Market Customers Shop In Rain

veggiesRain kept the crowd down a little bit at the Lansdale Farmers Market Saturday morning on Railroad Avenue, but vendor Thaddeus Jett of Jett’s Produce in Tylersport says it was welcome relief after the record heat of a few days ago and most of June. “I lost all of my lettuce crops due to the heat.  They’re so tough and bitter I can’t even think about trying to sell them.  Last week the broccoli was a little tough, and this week it was completely out of the question.  The intense heat shriveled up my grape tomatoes and made them look like prunes.”

He says last year was much different.

“Last year, with all that rain, I pushed lettuce all season long, so it’s kind of like you look at the long-term forecast and see how far you can stretch things.”

Jett says the slow, steady, soaking rain that came Saturday is exactly what local farmers needed.  Lansdale Farmers’ Market hours are 9:00am to 1:00pm every Saturday through mid-November.
