Corvette Show

american-flagSaturday’s sunny weather was perfect for the Corvette Car Show at A and T Chevrolet in Sellersville. Exhibitors included John Schultz of Franconia, who was there with his 1962 Studebaker Hawk.  He says it qualified because it has a corvette engine, and it’s a great car.

“This car actually has a lot of hidden features.  It has a heater under the driver’s seat and another under the passenger seat.  It’s a great-running car and it’s got all the creature comforts, heating and air conditioning, and I enjoy driving it.  I was really looking for a mid-50’s Chevy, but I happened to see it on the internet, and it was located in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and the guy said you won’t be disappointed if you come up and look at it, and he wasn’t kidding.  I went up and drove it home on that same day.”

He says at some shows he gets people who never heard of a Studebaker, and he also gets people who say their grandfather used to own one.  Russell Thomas of Fountainville was there with his 1958 Corvette convertible.  He says it has a removable hard top, which he hardly ever uses.

“I’m a top-down kind of guy.  To me that’s what it’s all about, the open windshield, the open air.  When you’re closed up in a car you can’t appreciate all the noises and the views that you can get, especially at night cruising along when it’s cooler.  It’s a great view through the windshield.”

Thomas says he bought the ’58 Corvette in 1973, and he has restored and repainted it three times since then, but he always uses the same colors – red and white.  He says all Corvettes should be red and white.
