Swimmers Compete At Towamencin Pool

beachAll eight teams in the BuxMont Swim League were at the Towamencin Pool Saturday for their “A” Championship Meet, where swimmers compete for individual honors. Riley Weber of Doylestown won the 100 freestyle for boys 15 and up.  He says he started swimming when he was four years old, and he trains very intensely six days a week.

“If you’re not man enough it’ll make you want to cry.  Mornings sometimes those are an hour-and-a-half or two hours.  After school it’ll usually be 2 1/2 hours.  In the summer we practice from 6:00 to 9:00 every morning.  2 ½ hours of that is swimming, and then we either do a dry land routine or go into the weight room and do intensive lifting, ha, ha.  When you do well you feel really good about yourself, and you feel excited that the training worked and you got your best time.  I think that is definitely the best, having it all pay off at the end when you’re competing.”

Weber swims for the Fanny Chapman team during the summer and Central Bucks East during the school year, and he hopes to go to college on a swimming scholarship.  Missy Doll of Harleysville won the 100 freestyle for girls 15 and up.  She says she started competitive swimming when she was seven years old, largely because her older sister was on the team, and she’s enjoyed it ever since.

“It’s fun.  We’re just one big family, and I really like the way we’re so close together and the team is one big family.  Racing is so much fun to me, and being competitive.  That’s what this sport is all about, and I like the little kids being at the end of the pool and cheering for you, and they run up and give you hugs.  I’ve been here for so many years, and I was that little kid once, so I just do it for them.”

Doll swims for the Harleysville team during the summer.  She graduated from Souderton Area High School this year, and she’s heading to college in California on a water polo scholarship.
