Encore Experiences of Harleysville has a new Community Garden, built by Boy Scout Kevin Hanlon of Troop 91 in Harleysville with help from scouts, family and friends, and donations from local businesses. He built it as his Eagle Scout project. Encore Experiences Executive Director Robin Burstein says program participants have shown a lot of interest in the garden.
“This is a farming community historically, and there are many people who do enjoy gardening and planting vegetables and crops, so this is something they can do that they have expertise and skill at, and people will benefit from it. Part of what they grow will be used here at the Encore Café, and any excess will be available for any participants to take home.”
Burstein says Kevin will stay involved for at least three years as part of his Eagle Scout project, and he will work with Encore Experiences, formerly known as the Harleysville Senior Center, to plan for planting, maintaining, weeding, cleaning and picking the garden with scouts and seniors working together.
