The Greater Philadelphia Office of Joni and Friends, located in Souderton, works through churches and community groups in reaching out to people with disabilities. Office Executive Director Jerry Borton says he has learned a lot about living with his own disability through his work with the faith-based organization.
“Life is hard, and there are tragedies that happen, but God is bigger. He’s bigger than the worst things we could imagine, and he has a place for us and a plan for us.”
His wife Joan, who works as program director for the local office, says they have support groups for the moms, dads and wives of people with disabilities.
“The moms’ club, the wives’ club and even the dads’ group that is getting off the ground, are a time for people to find out we are not alone going through this journey, this struggle, to get together and share the stories that no one else would believe if we told them and to find encouragement and support together.”
Joni and Friends will have the “All God’s Children” Dinner Theater and Chili Cook-off this Saturday, October 23, at 5:00pm at Quakertown Christian School. For more information call Joni and Friends at 215-799-2304. The Bortons appeared Monday on the WNPV talk program Indian Valley Live.
