Trunk Or Treat

ethertonsLansdale Presbyterian Church held its annual “Trunk Or Treat” event Saturday outside the church with food, fun and games, and cars and trucks decorated in colorful ways. Jeremiah and Amber Etherton of Telford (pictured here) had their sport-utility vehicle decorated with flowers, apples, pumpkins, and other fall fruits and vegetables.  Amber says they give kids an alternative to Halloween.

“Halloween tends to get really scary at times with all the ghosts and demons that people show up with, so I’d like to let the children see that there’s an alternative to scary Halloween.”

Jeremiah says they don’t need the witches and demons.

“We’re here having a good time centered on good things.  God made fall, and fall is great and God is great, and we don’t need to focus on anything but Him to have a good time.”

Etherton says his wife deserves all of the credit for decorating the family SUV in beautiful fall colors.  Brian Hand of Hatfield had his entire sport-utility vehicle decorated with sports themes, from the Phillies to martial arts and bowling.  He says children had to recite Bible verses to get candy, and it’s part of the Pioneer Club program for children from preschool through fifth grade.

“We learn the Bible along with life skills.  I lead a group of boys that are in third through fifth grades, so we do carpentry, we do wilderness skills, but along with that we’re learning about God’s goodness throughout the year.”

Hand says the Pioneer Club theme is Christ in Every Aspect of Life, and that’s what they’re trying to teach all of the children.
