Long, Hot Showers Cause Dry Skin

BathroomThe Co-Owner of Green Street Luxuries in Lansdale, Candy Pack, says dry skin in the winter is not entirely caused by the weather. Since it’s freezing outside, she says we tend to make the water a little bit hotter and stay in it a little big longer when we shower.  She says the solution is fairly simple.

“Try to stay out of the shower, keep the showers short, and use a really good moisturizing soap.”

She says you might consider the alternative.

“A bath is actually better with salts and some essential oils to keep your skin moisturized and also detoxed, and then use a thicker moisturizing cream instead of a lotion because it will stay on your skin pretty much all day.”

Pack says you might not think about it much, but water actually dries out the skin, and the hotter it gets the worse it gets.  If you prefer a shower, she says a good moisturizing soap will still work, but not if you stay in there for 15 or 20 minutes or more.
