Several more artifacts may soon join the ones now on display at the Towamencin Township Municipal Building, thanks to a donation from the old Towamencin Historical Society. It disbanded earlier this year, and it no longer has the space to store them. Former Society President Joe Silverman says the historic items include a musical instrument known as a melodeon.
“It’s an 1860 reed organ donated to us by a woman whose family is related to the Boorse family, and she had no more need for it. She felt we could use it if we ever did get the Boorse house, the hexagonal house that used to be on Sumneytown Pike, set up again. That would certainly be a piece that would be displayed there.”
He says its appraised value is about $750.
