Gas-To-Electric Car Conversion Workshop Coming To Bucks Co

parking-lotA nonprofit organization known as Bucks County Renewables is holding an Electric Vehicle Conversion Workshop, where people learn how to convert a gas-burning car to one that runs on electricity. Organization Director Jenny Isaacs says electric cars are very low-maintenance.

“We lose not only the very complex and finicky internal combustion engine, but also the associated exhaust, the radiator, the oil changes.  There are a lot of hoses and belts and gaskets and things that break on your regular car.  They’re just gone.  An electric setup is very simple.  There are few things to go wrong mechanically.  An electric vehicle is a very durable and long-lasting car.”

Isaacs says electric cars cost more to buy but, like energy-saving light bulbs, they cost less in the long run.  She says they also have quick pickup.  The workshop takes place the last week of July at the Middle Bucks Institute of Technology on Old York Road in Jamison.  Registration is open now.  For more information log onto www.buckscountyrenewables.com or call 610-847-4908.
