First D-Day Movie Shooting In Bucks Co

Continental_SoldiersA Bucks County Company known as Arrival Video is working on a movie called “America’s First D-Day.” Executive Producer Scott Randolph says it’s about General George Washington’s crossing of the Delaware River and the Continental Army’s defeat of Hessian mercenaries at Trenton on Christmas Day of 1776.  Contrary to some stories you might have heard, he says, the Hessians did try to fight back.

“They were trying to bring the artillery around to fire point-blank on the Continental Army and a William Washington, a cousin of George, and a young Lieutenant Monroe, charged the cannons and took them out.  They proceeded to get wounded, and just by coincidence there was a doctor standing next to this young Lieutenant Monroe who saved his life, and it’s a good thing because Lieutenant Monroe later becomes President James Monroe.”

Randolph says the British Army and the entire British Empire knew that General Washington’s crossing from Bucks County to New Jersey was a major turning point of the American Revolution.  He says most of the shooting will be done in Bucks County and, while it’s a for-profit project, the proceeds will benefit several non-profit organizations including the Friends of Washington Crossing State Park and the David Library of the American Revolution, also located in Washington Crossing, PA.  He appeared Monday on the WNPV talk program Buxmont Live.
