Bucks Co Playhouse Price Drops Again

The asking price for the Bucks County Playhouse in New Hope keeps dropping. It was nearly $2.8 million last December, when a bank took possession from long-time owner Ralph Miller.  The bank reduced it to a little more than $2.2 million, and now it’s down to $2.1 million as two local nonprofit organizations try to raise money to buy it.  Veteran Broadway and Off-Broadway show producer Howard Perloff is artistic director for one group, known as The Center for the Performing Arts of Bucks County.  He says that group has a commitment for $500,000.  The other group is affiliated with the Heritage Conservancy.  It’s working on raising $250,000 before it starts negotiating with the bank on financing.  The playhouse, which opened in 1939, also needs another $1 million or more for renovations including a new roof, a paint job, sprinkler and fire-detection systems and rest rooms that are accessible for people with disabilities.
