It’s Never Too Late For Marriage Counseling

Montgomery County Marriage and Family Therapist Mineela Chand says it’s never too late for couples to start counseling, but sooner is better than later. “Sometimes when clients decide that they need marriage counseling it’s gotten to the point where they’re going to need to put out a lot more resources, a lot more effort.  A lot more pain goes into the counseling, so the sooner you get in the better it is in terms of ease, and how easy it would be for you to work through those issues, so if you pull out those weeds when they’re small it’s a lot easier than it is to pull out a weed in your backyard that has become a tree and choked out everything.”

Chand says usually if divorce is looming the couple is about three to four years late in getting counseling, and it’s also a good idea before marriage, but at that time most people are too busy planning the wedding.  Her practice is in King of Prussia now, but she’s moving to Wayne in January.  She appeared Wednesday on the WNPV talk program Legally Speaking.
