Property Tax Round Up

dollarsMontgomery County officals are considering the need for a tax increase, while there is a mixed bag of news from municipalities around the area.   County Commissioners need to close a 28 million dollar budget gap next year.  They have directed department heads to find 5 percent of additional cuts in their individual budgets.  The commissioners may also need to hike the county property tax rate, layoff county workers and or dip into their rainy day fund.  Towamencin supervisors have indicated there won't be a need for a local tax hike next year.  Hilltown supervisors have OKed a preliminary spending plan with a 30 percent local property tax increase.  And in Hatboro there seems to be a split decision, with Democratic council members saying no hike will be needed and their Republican counterparts saying it's still to early to tell.
