An overturned truck closed Towamencin Avenue in Towamencin Township for several hours Friday afternoon. No one was injured but 1,800 pounds of used kitchen grease was spilled at the Sumneytown Pike intersection. The liquid waste got into a storm drain 250 feet away from the accident scene but quick work by the township public works department prevented it from seeping into a nearby creek. The cleanup crew used a cat litter like substance called oil dry to soak up the grease. It was applied on the roadway and scooped up with a shovel. Investigators say the truck driver apparently failed to negotiate the turn from Sumneytown Pike onto Towamencin Avenue before the truck tipped over on its passenger side.
