5th District Firefighter Awards

fireDozens of firefighters from the North Penn and Indian Valleys broke bread together in North Wales Wednesday night before honoring eight of their own.   Four members of the Wissahickon Fire Company received the Special Merit Award for Heroism and Valor.   Assistant Chief Jay Leadbeater, firefighters Harry Altman and Tim Griffiths as well as Assistant Chief Bob Lynch were honored for saving an elderly man in a burning building.   Long time Towamencin Volunteer Fire Company member Charlie Speacht received the prestigious Earl Mayers Award.   Hatfield Volunteer Fire Company member Nick Yannarell was named firefighter of the year.   Retired Fairmount Fire Company Chief Jay Daveler got the Distinguished Service Award for his 44-years at the helm of the fire company.   The President's Award was won by retired North Penn Volunteer Fire Company Chief Bill Goltz but he was unable to attend the awards dinner because a family member is sick.

Services Set For Former Lansdale Police Chief Funeral services have been released for former Lansdale Police Chief, Wallace “Wally” Hendricks. Hendricks, who passed away Monday, was a 27 year member of the Lansdale police department, beginning his career as a patrolman in 1953.
