Conservation Officer Provides Tips If You See a Bear

Bear sightings in Bucks and Montgomery Counties have increased over the last several weeks. Cassie Zlecksi, a Pennsylvania Wildlife Conservation Officer says, bears people are seeing have been recently kicked out the den.

”They’re still young and looking for an area to call their own. They are afraid because it’s the first time they are out on their own away from mom. As far as trash goes, if a bear is spotted in your area, don’t put your trash out until trash day. I you’re going to put it out the night before, there’s a very good chance that the bear is going to just rip it open and trash is going to be everywhere, because trash is an easy food source for them.”

Zlecski adds, if you are approached by a bear, make noise and way your hands, while slowly backing away. She says the bear will be scared and run away.
