Exercise Enthusiasts Need To Be Cautious During Heat Wave

The Oppressive temperatures across the region can take a physical and medical toll on anyone. Grace Hess is a physician’s assistant in the emergency room at Grand View Hospital. Hess says, heat combine with humidity can send even the most resilient exercise enthusiast to the hospital

“Our bodies are less able to evaporate the water from the sweat and so that our bodies are not able to cool as they can in normal temperatures. It really is a danger for people who are in shape. We would encourage people to try to workout inside or if they do exercise outside to decrease their workout.”

Hess adds, children and the elderly are at a higher risk when the mercury hit the mid to upper 90’s. Hess says, if you work outside, try to take more breaks and stay hydrated.
