The latest scam that’s come to the attention of the Bucks County Department of Consumer Affairs is a con called the check scam.
“They’re able to print these things up pretty easily. They usually have some information from a legitimate company and they will send you some extra money to try to get you to deposit a counterfeit check. Then they get you to send money from your bank account to them via Western Union, then you find out two weeks later the check is bounced.”
That’s Mike Bannon, Director of Consumer Affairs for Bucks County. Bannon says a brochure is available for consumers, called “Scam, Cons and Flimflams”. For information call 1-800-942-2669. Bannon was a guest on the AM-Edition
