A former mobster tells Inforadio that the mob’s influence isn’t what it was 40 years ago, but it’s not going away. Michael Franzese was born into a New York mob family. He spent a lot of time in Philadelphia and South Jersey.
“I knew Nicky Scarfo very well. There’s no question that the scrutiny and the efforts that the government placed against the mob back in the 1980’s took their toll. They put a lot of guys away. They took away the power structure that we had within the unions.”
But now law enforcement has more resources dedicated to terrorism, so the mob may be ready to make a comeback.
Franzese is one of the characters who be featured on a National Geographic Channel Program this Sunday called “Inside The American Mob.”
