Former F.A.A. Off.: Nation Needs To Be More Vigilant

On the morning of September 11th, 2001, Ben Sliney started his day with the F.A.A. not knowing how much it would change his life and the aviation industry. Sliney was the F.A.A’s Manager of Operations on that fateful day. Long before the day could end, he would give the order to clear the skies, grounding more than four thousand aircraft. Sliney was a guest on the AM-Edition Tuesday morning with Darryl Berger.

“All these years later, I think the thing that bothers me the most is that we are not vigilant enough. We saw what happened in Boston. Darryl, you and me and everyone must be on their toes today in public or in places were public transportation is concerned. I understand that people move on and have other things on their minds, but that’s the one lesson we should have learned from that dreadful day.”

Sliney, now retired from the F.A.A, will be a keynote speaker in Lower Makefield Township at a 911 Memorial tonight at 7.
