50 years ago today, President John f. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas’ Dealey Plaza. President of the Lansdale historical society, Dick Shearer, was a college student on that day, when he stopped to get a haircut.
“I was in Perkasie when Perkasie’s Chief of Police came in the barber shop and told us the President had been shot. The barber was the one person on the street who had a television set and everybody immediately came to the barbershop.”
Kennedy actually spoke to a teenaged Shearer during a campaign stop in Montgomery County in 1960.
Political pollster and frequent guest on WNPV’S AM Edition and Comment Please By Univest, say he vivid memories of that fateful day.
“I was actually student teaching in John Reynolds Jr. High in Lancaster, Pa. I was walking down the hallway getting ready to go to a class, when people starting stirring around saying the President has been shot.”
Madonna he credits President Kennedy with inspiring him to study politics.
