No Child Support, No Hunting

montco_courthouseMontgomery County Domestic Relations Director Gary Kline says his office now has the ability to take hunting and fishing licenses away from parents who are behind in child support payments by three months or more. He says they warn people in advance by mail.

“We mail those notices out telling people we’re going to notify the fish and game commission to suspend your hunting license, or deny or block any privileges that you might apply for, and we’re hoping that those folks come in.”

He says they really don’t want to stop anyone from hunting or fishing.

“We know we’re ticking off a group of people with firearms, which is always scary.  They can come in and work something out.  We want to work with them, and we don’t want to take away everyone’s privileges.  We just want to get them to comply with a court order, and if they come in and talk to us more times than not they’ll get their license back.”

Kline says no one will get shot because firearms are not allowed in the domestic relations office.  He appeared Wednesday on the WNPV talk program Legally Speaking.
