Military Might On Display

bibleA Saturday event at the Morgan Log House in Towamencin Township highlighted military might over four centuries in the American colonies and the U.S.A. Participants included Bill Hyndman of Telford, who showed memorabilia honoring his neighbor Mark Miller, a crew member on the last B-29 shot down in World War Two.

“This young man who lost his life had a lovely wife and child and was willing to serve his country to the full, and in the loss of his life I enjoy the freedoms that I have today.  I just wanted his name not to go down to nothingness, and so since 1946 when I did my first display in fourth grade, I have continued to do so.”

He says he is also honoring other deceased World War Two veterans from his childhood hometown of Morristown, New Jersey.

“It’s my job to speak for those who I know cannot speak for themselves.  I have a Purple Heart display.  Those are five men that I know through different means and who lost their lives.  I’m left here to speak for them.”

Hyndman says there is no such thing as a good war, but World War Two was a just war that led to better lives for people on both sides of the battle lines.
