The North Penn Relay for Life, to benefit the American Cancer Society, is coming up Saturday and Sunday at Crawford Stadium, outside the high school. Cancer survivor Steve Frederick says it’s one of many similar events across the country, designed to raise money and awareness.
“It does focus, at least for that 24-hour period, on this dreaded disease and the importance of the survivor’s role and also the caregivers, and we need to continue to do so because it is a terrible disease impacting thousands of people in our area.”
American Cancer Society Community Development Specialist Meredith Gavin says they are already more than halfway to their fundraising goal.
“We’ve been raising money since the end of the last fiscal year. We’re up to about $83,000 so far. We’re goaled at $130,000, so hopefully we can reach that Saturday or Sunday.”
Gavin says they will have activities around the clock. Registration is open through Thursday, and they can still use volunteers. She and Frederick appeared Monday on the WNPV talk program Comment Please by Univest.
