One Chief, Two PD’s

american-flagDoylestown and New Britain Boroughs are sharing a police chief. James Donnelly is Chief of the Doylestown Department and Acting Chief of the New Britain Department.  Former New Britain Police Chief Donald Bowers resigned, effective June 30, to become Chief of the New Holland Department in Lancaster County, creating a vacancy.  Since the two boroughs are discussing a merger with Doylestown and Warwick Townships, New Britain Borough Council decided not to hire a new chief for their department, and instead asked Doylestown for help.  New Britain has agreements with both Doylestown and Donnelly for his service, and he is required to work for Doylestown at the same level he did before taking on his New Britain duties.  He will continue working both jobs until talks about forming the larger regional department are finished and a decision is made.
