More McNeil Products Recalled

pillsJohnson and Johnson has quietly recalled more products made at its McNeil Consumer Healthcare Fort Washington Plant, which the company closed more than six months ago. The latest recall is for Children’s Benadryl Fastmelt Tablets and Junior-Strength Motrin Caplets.  The company says there is no indication that the products are unsafe, but they are being recalled because of insufficiencies in the manufacturing process.  J and J recalled Liquid Children’s Tylenol, Motrin, Benadryl and other products in April, after the Food and Drug Administration found bacteria and other contaminants in raw ingredients used to make them.  U.S. sales of non-prescription medicines fell by 40 percent in the third quarter of this year, as the embarrassing recalls combined with the recession to drive shoppers to cheaper store brands.   The company says the Fort Washington plant is getting a major overhaul, it will not re-open until late next year, and laid-off employees who are re-hired will get new training.
