A Nuclear Regulatory Commission report released several months ago says Exelon Nuclear’s Limerick Generating Station is at risk for earthquake damage. Of the 104 nuclear plants in the United States, the report says Limerick has the third highest risk. It says Three Mile Island near Harrisburg, which had the nation’s worst nuclear accident in 1979, is also at high risk. Meanwhile, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency says little if any radiation from the damaged nuclear reactors in Japan will reach the state, but the Department of Environmental Protection has a surveillance program in place around the state’s five nuclear power plants that will detect any increased radioactivity.
