Consultant To Study Towamencin-Upper Gwynedd Wastewater Plant

BathroomTowamencin and Upper Gwynedd officials are moving forward with plans to take a close look at the wastewater treatment plant they operate jointly. A committee of officials from both municipalities is interviewing people from three consulting firms this week.  Towamencin Township Manager Rob Ford says they want an outsider to come in and see what’s needed to bring the aging plant up to date.

“What both townships thought was prudent is to have an independent study, someone other than the authority’s engineer, go down and take a look at the plant and anticipate what may need to be done with the changing rules at DEP (the Department of Environmental Protection) and project what we’re getting into for future years before we commit to something.”

The plant’s 50-year charter expires in 2014, and officials want to know what they have to do before they renew the agreement.  The study should start next month, and the two townships will split the cost.
