A New Jersey teenager is suing a Bucks County fireworks retailer, the manufacturer and the friend who bought them. Thomas Eldershaw of Jackson, in Ocean County, was 19 years old when he lit a mortar shell last year on the Fourth of July. It misfired, sending a projectile into his eye and face, causing serious permanent damage. His suit says Sky King Fireworks of Morrisville broke the law by selling them to Eldershaw’s friend, and the friend, who lives in the Garden State, brought them across state lines illegally. His lawyer says Sky King and other similar stores are not allowed to sell fireworks to Pennsylvania residents, but anyone with a Jersey driver’s license can walk in and buy thousands of dollars worth of very dangerous products.
