Bucks County Consumer Protection Director Michael Bannon says things did not look good last December when Windowizards closed for the first time, but they kept entering into contracts and taking deposits up until they locked the doors. When his staff started taking a close look at company finances, he says something changed.
“They miraculously found a way to return deposits back to folks, and in some cases they actually installed work, so I’m happy to say we were pretty much able to work everything out. We still have a few very minor issues, but we were able to get refunds and get work done. It’s close to a million dollars, I think.”
Bannon says bankruptcy laws protect failing companies while doing very little for consumers, but when businesses are taking money and they know they are about to close, they have a responsibility to do the right thing by their customers. Otherwise they could be charged with theft, and he thinks the Bucks County District Attorney’s involvement in the Windowizards case could have given the company a little push in the right direction.
